Looking at the brilliant colors of this water, it’s hard to believe that this is the most unforgiving water on earth, not supportable of life beyond the microscopic. The Dead Sea, at 400 meters below sea level, is a beautifully placid body of water that needs to be experienced with a dip in the waters. This is a great place for non-swimmers, as the high salinity guarantees effortless floating. Personally, the thought of not having anything bite or sting Sole Traveling Mama (other than the salt!) is also quite appealing!
Don’t shave on the day you plan to take a dip, as even minor nicks and abrasions can sting like mad. You’ll also want to have water shoes with a thick sole for your venture into the waters.
Dead Sea beach access is less than an hour’s drive from Amman and the airport, on the Jordanian side.
