LANVIN http://www.lanvin.com was founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889. The eldest of 11 children, she began an apprenticeship with a Parisian milliner at only 16 and then trained with a dressmaker before founding her own line of clothing. Madame Lanvin made beautiful clothes for her daughter, which captured the eye and the interest of the wealthy and fashionable Parisians of the day. Very quickly, she was kept busy and profiting by outfitting both daughters and their mothers, often in matching ensembles.
Lanvin stepped onto the United States fashion stage in 2009 when Michelle Obama was photographed in a a pair of Lanvin shoes. In fact, December 2009 saw the opening of their first U.S. boutique in Bal Harbor, Florida.
Through the years, Jeanne Lanvin gathered her inspirations from museums, her art collection, travels and her collection of costumes. She was known for her trademark designs of intricate trims and elaborate beaded designs. Quatrrocento blue was her favorite color and used so widely in her collections that it is since known as Lanvin blue. Using furs, lace, velvets and tulle, she created masterpieces to showcase a woman’s beauty.
