Against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower with the golden dome of Invalides gleaming in the background, tonight, for the 5th year, the Gardens of Trocadero open as the European Christmas Village – Hooooooray!! Hundreds of chalets sell crafts, French regional products food, and, of course, the obligatory vin chaud, all of which vie for your attention.
The village will be open daily beginning today, December 12 through January 5, 2014 from 11:00 to 21:00, although will close on Christmas Eve at 18:00. There is an Ice Dome that offers great views of the City and this year there will also be an opportunity to try out snowshoeing and cross country skiing.
And what Winter Wonderland would be complete without an ice skating rink? For only 6 euros you get your skate rental and unlimited skating time. It’s FREE if you bring your own skates! Now that’s a deal!! Although the rink is a bit small, nothing beats whirling and twirling on your own blades of glory with the Eiffel Tower glittering in front of you! Sole Traveling Mama also has learned that Santa Claus is supposed to make an appearance for opening night around 18:00 tonight. You know where she will be!
Access to the rink on Place du Trocadero 75016 by the Palais Chaillot Metro stop Trocadero Line 6 or 9
